Bio

Known as one of the rising clarinetists in the young generation, Chan Hin Man Jasmine is an active clarinetist in solo, chamber and orchestral music. She is currently studying the Bachelor of Music in Performance at the University of Toronto, majoring in clarinet. She has begun her clarinet studies at the age of 7 under the coaching of Mr. Cho Fong Leung, the principal clarinetist of Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra, Mr. Fong Hiu Kai, the principal clarinetist of Hong Kong Sinfonietta and Mr. Dominic Desautels, the principal clarinetist of the Canadian Opera Company and Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra. She is currently studying with Mr. Miles Jaques, clarinetist and solo bass clarinetist of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. She has received Music Alumni Awards – International, Howard F.Andrews Memorial Prize, Susan Cale Award & Norman and Hinda Tobias Memorial scholarships in her study at the University of Toronto.


Jasmine obtained her first performance diploma ATCL in 2013 and LTCL with distinction in 2018. Jasmine has won various awards, including in Hong Kong Schools Music Festivals, Heep Yunn Old Girls’ Association Cup for achievement in Music. Recently, she won the champion and first prize in Winds Section (Category E) in Amigdala International Music Competition (Hong Kong Region in 2019 and the First Prize in Winds Section (Section I U) in the 22nd Osaka International Music Competition Hong Kong/ Taiwan Round.

Jasmine is the current principal clarinetist in the Hong Kong Festival Orchestra and clarinetist in the University of Toronto Wind Ensemble. Being the principal clarinetist in the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of Hong Kong, Jasmine performed Rossin’s Introduction, Theme & Variation with the orchestra as a solo clarinetist in 2016. She has gained a lot of ensemble and performance experience. In the fifth year of secondary school, she was the vice-chairlady, concertmistress of Heep Yunn Symphonic Band and chairlady of Heep Yunn Orchestra, leading HYO and Heep Yunn ensemble resulting in Gold Medal in both categories – children’s orchestra age under 16 and ensemble with free instrumentation age under 21 in the 8th International youth Music Festival 1, Bratislava. In her studies at the Education University in Hong Kong, she was the president, concertmistress in EduHK Symphonic Band and the principal clarinetist in EduHK Orchestra.

Music Tour and Summer Festivals have included Professional Training Program in 2021 Vancouver Symphony Orchestral Institute, 12th Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Festival 2018 with the result of 2nd place with outstanding success, 8th International Youth Music Festival with the result of gold medal in both categories and EduHK music tour to Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.

Jasmine has been teaching clarinet for several years with excellent results achieved in students’ examinations. She is passionate, patient and creates an enjoyable, fun learning environment. She enjoys making music, exchanging music ideas with other musicians while expressing herself through music, sharing her music with the audience.
